Help

Get found on Google

Search engines decide by themselves whether and where they list a website, so nobody can promise a place in the results. What you can do is give every page a clear title and description, and keep addresses working.

Page settings for search

In the editor, open Page settings at the top. The card “In search results” holds:

  • Page title — shown in the browser tab and as the headline in search results.
  • Short description — one or two sentences, about 150 characters, that search engines may show under the title.
  • Search engines — whether this page may be listed and its links followed.
  • Main address — only if the same page is also reachable at another address.

Sharing previews

Below, Page settings also set the title, text and picture shown when someone shares the page on Facebook, LinkedIn or X. Empty fields fall back to the page title and description.

The sitemap

  • Your published website lists its pages at /sitemap.xml, for example yourbusiness.com/sitemap.xml, in every language the site has. Search engines find it through the site's robots.txt.
  • Pages set to “Do not list” and members-only pages are left out.
  • To speed things up, you can submit the sitemap's address in Google Search Console, Google's free tool for site owners.

Changing a page's address

  1. Open the page in the editor, then Page settings › Web address.
  2. Enter the new address and press “Change address”.
  3. Publish. Links to the page on your own site follow the new address.
  • The old address keeps working: visitors and search engines who open it are sent to the new one with a permanent redirect.
  • Under “Old addresses that lead here” you can also add addresses by hand, such as the pages of your previous website that search engines still list.
  • The home page always opens at /. A page one of your apps links to keeps its address.

The page-not-found page

  • An address your site does not have shows a plain “Page not found” notice with a link to the home page. It answers with the status 404, so search engines drop the address instead of listing an empty page.
  • You can design that page yourself: in the editor, create a new page and choose “Design the “page not found” page”. It is used for every missing address and never appears in the sitemap or in menus.
